At the aquarium, you might walk right past a sanddab hiding in the sand without even knowing it. The Sanddab takes on the color of the sand, and even the sand’s pattern, in a perfect camouflage. The Sanddab spends most of its life lying on its side in the sand. Amazingly, the eye that would be buried in the sand moves up to the other side of its head. Then the Sanddab has two eyes looking up into the water for krill, shrimp and worms to eat. |
