Dark-eyed Junco Junco hyemalis |

The Junco is a kind of sparrow that is common all over the United States. They eat mostly insects in the summer, and seeds in the winter. They will come to feeders. This bird flashes its bright white outer tail feathers as it flies, probably so other Juncos can see it. Then it folds them out of sight when it lands. This might be to help it blend into the ground so a hawk won’t notice it. |
