Marbled Godwit

These large, cinnamon-colored shorebirds feed in flocks. It’s easy to tell the Marbled Godwit from other shorebirds, because it is the only one that has two colors on its long bill. The bill is pink near the bird’s head, and black at the tip.

Godwits use their very sensitive bill to poke around in beaches and mudflats, searching for small snails, shrimp and worms. Some shorebirds just put the tip of their bill in the mud. The Godwit sinks its whole bill into the mud, and sometimes part of its head, to get to food that other birds can't reach.
